What exactly is ergonomics and how can it help me?

Ergonomics is the study of a person’s efficiency while in their work environment. This has become an increasingly popular and important topic as research has shown that the application of ergonomic principles in the workplace can reduce musculoskeletal disorders or MSDs.

Work-related MSDs are one of the leading causes of work injury and illness and result in lost work days and productivity.  The risk of work-related MSDs spans a diverse set of industries and work environments, and can be caused by everything from lifting heavy items to repeating simple tasks repetitively.

In addition to your employer providing an ergonomic program and support, there are many things you can do to ensure that your workstation is ergonomically correct.
